2-Step Paint Correction

Cut + finish. Addresses moderate defects before refining to a deep gloss.

Cut and refine packages for every body style

Two-step correction is the sweet spot for vehicles with moderate swirling, sanding marks or RIDS that one-step cannot remove. We dedicate a cut pass and a refining pass to each panel.

  • Extensive wash, chemical + mechanical decon, masking and panel prep.
  • First cut with microfibre/wool pads, second refiner with foam polishers.
  • Panel wipe inspection and protection layer to lock in the correction.

When to choose the two-step correction

If light polishing barely scratches the surface of your defects, two-step gives you the cutting power and clarity you need. Look for these cues.

Sign 01

Moderate swirling + RIDS

Scratches visible at a distance or caused by improper washing demand a cut pass before refining.

Sign 02

Dealer-installed holograms

Those rotary buffer trails need a targeted cut to flatten, followed by a haze-removing finish.

Sign 03

Pre-coating perfection

Ceramic coatings lock in whatever is beneath. Two-step resets the paint so coatings perform.

Sign 04

Heavily oxidised paint

Older single-stage or neglected metallic paints need more bite plus a jewelling pass.

What Causes It

Defects are layered. Two steps address each layer.

Years of automatic washes, bird etching, tree sap and dealer prep marks etch deeply. A soft finishing pass alone won’t pull them out.

  • Improper compounding leaves heavy buffer trails that must be re-cut.
  • Environmental etching from bird droppings or sap penetrates deeper into the clear.
  • Neglected single-stage paint oxidises and requires more than a finesse polish.
Our Process

Two-step correction workflow

01

Prep & masking

Decon wash, clay, iron removal and extensive tape-up to protect trim, rubber and badges.

02

Cut stage

Heavy defect removal using measured passes, forced rotation tools and tailored compounds.

03

Refine & jewell

Soft foam pads and finishing polish restore clarity, remove haze and increase gloss.

04

Protection & inspection

Panel wipe, sealant/coating prep and inspection under high-CRI lighting with you.

Pair it with ceramic coating? We can go straight into coating prep once the correction is complete.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a 1-step and 2-step polish?

A 1-step uses a single compound to cut and finish in one pass. A 2-step uses a heavier cutting compound first to remove deeper defects, then a finer polish to refine the finish. More correction, more time, better result.

How long does a 2-step paint correction take?

A full day. Sometimes two days on larger vehicles or heavily neglected paint. We do not rush paint correction.

Does paint correction remove clear coat?

Correctly done paint correction removes a minimal, controlled amount of clear coat. We use a paint depth gauge before and after to make sure we stay well within safe limits. On paint with an already thin clear coat, we will tell you before we start.

Should I ceramic coat after a 2-step correction?

Yes. A 2-step correction gets your paint to its best possible condition. Ceramic coating locks that in and protects it going forward. Getting a ceramic coat without correction first is sealing defects in permanently.
